Doja Cat, has outdone herself with yet another controversial release, Paint the Town Red.

Story by Kayla Troup

Los Angeles-born artist, Doja Cat, has outdone herself with yet another controversial release, Paint the Town Red. The accompanying video immediately demands viewers' attention, beginning with a cringey eye pluck. Next, we see Doja riding a green, celestial creature while doubling down on her ‘I said what I said’ mantra. Dionne’s infamous ‘walk on by’ further solidifies the singer’s newfound insouciance. It is clear Doja Cat has fully embraced the parts of her, good and bad, and is intent on staying true to who she is. One could even say that it is more accurate to interpret the lyrics and imagery as a kind of metaphor. Doja goes as far as to admit that ‘she the devil’; perhaps a confession to how she has felt perceived throughout her life experiences. Whatever the case, we can be sure to get more insight with her upcoming album, Scarlet, which will debut on September 22, 2023.
