Joan Belgrave will release the songbook of her late husband, Detroit’s official Jazz Master Laureate, trumpeter, Marcus Belgrave with two performances

****FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE****

On June 8, 2024, vocalist, songwriter, Joan Belgrave will release the songbook of her late husband, Detroit’s official Jazz Master Laureate, trumpeter, Marcus Belgrave with two performances, the first on June 8th in Ann Arbor at Blue Llama Jazz Club, 314 S. Main St, Ann Ann Arbor, MI, the second on June 15th in Detroit at Trinosophes performance space, 1464 Gratiot Avenue, Detroit, MI.

For over 50 years, Marcus Belgrave nurtured and guided the entire music community of Detroit, where his priority was to provide a platform for young musicians to shine. By doing this, he left an incredible legacy of performers and students, who have themselves now become mentors throughout the world, National Endowment of the Arts Jazz Masters and McArthur Genius award recipients.

The songbook is published by Multiverse Multimedia.  The songbook celebrates the music of the maestro, a Kresge Eminent Artist, Michigan Jazz Master, Ray Charles alumni and an original member of Wynton Marsalis’s Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. The songbook includes Concert, Bass, Eb, Bb and selected vocals.  It is Mrs. Belgrave’s hope that her late husband’s challenging music will now be available for distribution and will be taught to jazz ensembles and orchestras across the globe.

Mrs. Belgrave is also co-producing a documentary on her late husband that is scheduled for release in 2025.  The documentary garnered glowing reviews at the 2024 Detroit “Freep Film Festival Works-In-Progress”. The film stars such notable musicians as Terence Blanchard, Wynton Marsalis, Chris Botti, Ray Parker Jr. and many more whose lives Belgrave touched.
